London race report R13
30 July 2022: It was a difficult day at the office for the NIO 333 Formula E Team in Round 13 of the 2022 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in London. After an incident in FP2 and issues that arose throughout the day, the first race of the double header event at the ExCeL arena saw Oliver Turvey (#3 NIO 333 001) come home in provisional P15 with fellow British Rookie team-mate Dan Ticktum (#33 NIO 333 001) taking the chequered flag in P17.

The weekend continues with Round 14 in and around the ExCeL Arena London’s docklands area tomorrow morning with Free Practice 3 at 08:30 BST.

Oliver Turvey, #3 NIO 333 FE 001
Free Practice 1: P18
Free Practice 2: P19
Qualifying Group A – Race Grid Position: P20
Round 13 Provisional Race Result: P15
“It was tough day with an issue in qualifying affecting the braking in the second half of my lap. The race went better, we kept with the pack in the first part of the race and I was able to overtake Giovinazzi. We struggled with the rear tyres in the second half of the race but still managed to move forwards a few positions to finish P15. Overall I felt we got the most out of it but we’ll look to see what we can do to improve for tomorrow.”

Dan Ticktum, #33 NIO 333 FE 001
Free Practice 1: P21
Free Practice 2: P22
Qualifying Group B – Race Grid Position: P21
Round 13 Provisional Race Result: P17
“Pretty tricky day today. I crashed in practice… I was just surprised with the difference in behavior of a set of tyres, which caught me off-guard. The Team did a great job to get the car back together just in time for the session, however the incident still affected my qualifying. As a result, I wasn’t able to maximize what we had. I don’t think we would have been able to be much higher up, but it would have been nice to see what we could have done. Starting from the back, we opted for a save strategy, looking to capitalize on a possible safety-car, which never came. On to tomorrow.”

Alex Hui, Team Principal, NIO 333 Formula E Team
“It’s been a difficult and disappointing day. We have shown some great potential lately, but we didn’t get the car in the right window today. London is a circuit that we knew would be challenging for us. Luckily, we have tomorrow to go again, there is room to do better. We will build on what we have learnt and push hard for a stronger showing.”
