NIO 333 Formula E Team Announces New Senior Management Team

Silverstone, UK, 24 November 2021: The NIO 333 Formula E team is pleased to announce that Alex Hui will become Team Principal for the Silverstone based squad, with Russell O’Hagan working alongside in the positions of Deputy Team Principal and Chief Operations Officer.

Alex has been working with the team since Brilliant in Excellence (BIE UK Ltd.) took over the ownership and management of the NIO Formula E team in 2016, first as a consultant, and then as Executive Director alongside Vincent Wang who continues in his role of Chief Executive Officer for 333 Racing and the NIO 333 Formula E team.

Alex Hui has extensive experience in both motorsport and automotive engineering. He himself has previously raced in the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) and the WTCR Race of Macau (formerly the Macau Guia Race) and won the 2018 Drivers’ title of the TCR China Touring Car Championship.

Today Alex is rarely behind the wheel himself but is often found at a racetrack in his position of CEO of Gusto Engineering – a motorsport performance business which supplies and distributes premium European-based vehicle parts and technologies across the Asia region. The company also develops engines and race cars and has been the official engine and chassis supplier to the CTCC as well as Technical Partner of the NIO 333 Formula E Team.

Alex is also at the helm of Hong Kong based Teamwork Motorsport which has won multiple championship titles in China and Asia, including two further Driver and Team Championship titles secured at the Guia races at Macau last weekend, the final weekend in the 2021 TCR Series calendar.

Russell O’Hagan joined 333 Racing in the role of Operations Director in March 2021 and has been undertaking the the duties of Acting Team Principal since the departure of Christian Silk back in August. He achieved a 1st Class degree in Engineering prior to commencing his motorsport career which has spanned over 20 years. During this time, Russell has garnered skills in engineering, R&D, calibrations, motorsport operations, business finance and sports politics.

With successes in touring, sports car, and GT championships (most notably with Craft Bamboo Racing), Russell brings a breadth of global experience and strong relationships throughout Europe and Asia.  He is passionate about racing and sustainability and has now assumed the role of Deputy Team Principal alongside his duties in a newly created position of C.O.O at the NIO 333 Formula E Team.

Russell O’Hagan, C.O.O and Deputy Team Principal of the NIO 333 Formula E Team adds,

“I am delighted to be announced as Deputy Team Principal for NIO 333 Formula E Team following a handover period stretching back to the middle of Season 7.  We have an exciting time ahead as we continue to settle into our new HQ at Silverstone and push forward ever harder with our GEN 3 programme. I am relishing the challenge of the new season, commencing with the pre-Season 8 test in Valencia next week, and to realising the fruits of our labour after a great team effort over the last six months.”

Further team recruitment to bolster the 333 Racing team based in the new HQ at Silverstone, UK, includes Gary Reynders, who joins in the role of Chief Mechanic from Williams Advanced Engineering/Jaguar Racing and veteran multi series race engineer, Matt Beers who joins the expanded engineering and controls department.

The NIO 333 Formula E Team driver line up for the coming season will be announced ahead of the 2021-22 FIA Formula E World Championship all-teams test at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia, Spain taking place next week.

    NIO333FE Team

    The NIO 333 Formula E Team has participated (under different ownerships) in the FIA Formula E Championship since its inception and won the inaugural Drivers’ Championship title as Team China Racing in 2015. ‘333 Racing’ partnered with the team in September 2019 and entered in to the sixth season of the all-electric racing series as the NIO 333 FE Team.

    The new organisation is fully managed and operated by motorsport management company, Shanghai Lisheng Racing Co. Ltd in China, while its European subsidiary responsible for Research and Development, technical support, marketing and media, is based in Oxfordshire, UK. NIO, the Chinese electric car manufacturer, continues as Primary Partner for the team into 2021.
